Reports indicate that about six supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sustained injuries during a free-for-all fight at Asante Mampong due to internal violent clash.
A clash ensued between some supporters of two parliamentary aspirants vying for the NPP parliamentary slot on Wednesday afternoon over issues in relation to the filing of nomination forms.
The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, and a former Member of Parliament, Francis Addai Nimoh, were both at the party office to file their nominations for the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
It is alleged that supporters of the incumbent MP, Ampratwum-Sarpong, prevented the former MP, Addai Nimoh, from filing his nomination forms.
The situation caused confusion between the supporters of the two aspirants, resulting in a free-for-all fight at the party’s constituency office.
It took a swift intervention of the police to disperse the angry supporters.
Addressing journalists, Mr. Addai Nimoh accused the constituency party executives for being the cause of the violent clash.
